There was a queen from Calcutta who was visiting the temple and wearing a beautiful sabiya, which is a kind of head wrap, theyre kind of like canopies. I had decided that we can check if theres a difference between the sound of bells that was recorded at the same time at the same moment in time, but recorded in the pujas the queen was attending and during the different types of pujas, with the sabiya and without the sabiya. And so we recorded at multiple points on the day. And there was something in that sound, I cant really explain it, but there was something in that sound for the queen as well.
Im always conscious of how Im conducting myself in the field. I dont want to be intrusive. I dont want to cause any problems. But I knew that I wanted to do it. I really felt that I was so grateful for the experience of the things that I had gone through, and the sounds that I had experienced at that temple. I wanted to do something in the service of the sound. But I wanted the experience to be marginalized. I wanted to allow the possibility of studying the sound of bells, without having to get involved in an experience that is so immensely significant for the place. d2c66b5586
