Among the most common causes of inadequate blood collection samples are failure to find an appropriate vein, failure to aim correctly the needle at the vein, or failure to perform the blood collection in an ideal puncture-free area [59]. Once the samples are received, the samples should be immediately processed at 4°C [21], [23], otherwise the blood cells will begin to clot and the samples may lose their quality. It is important to use a transportation container with saturated vapor and that is protected from light (Fig. 3.2).
