AMD has previously recognized some of the problems with Apple's obfuscation of diagnostic data, and AMD has started a campaign to fix this . AMD's complaint with Apple is that Apple doesn't provide any diagnostic data that isn't an extension of the diagnostic report from the Mac with the new display. AMD feels that this makes it hard for them to update the software, and they can't guarantee their customers that their diagnostic images are current.
For this talk I'll go over what AMD's complaint is, and explain how Apple's obfuscation of diagnostic data leads to a situation where an end-user would likely have to pay for the software in order to provide the latest software to their customers. I'll also explain the problem with the Catalina update on a non-Retina MacBook Pro, which is still a problem even with the latest update. I'll also go over the new Extended Data Collection that was introduced in Catalina.
